    Eligibility Requirements

Our competitive swim team is open to community residents* ages 5-18.

To swim competitively with the Devil Rays, all new swimmers (including Mini Rays who did not compete by the end of last season) are required to pass swim evaluations based on the following:

    • Swimmers, ages 8 & under, must be able to swim 25 meters (one length of the pool) on top of the water without touching the bottom or using the lane line for assistance.
    • Swimmers, ages 9 & above, must be able to swim 50 meters (two lengths of the pool) on top of the water without touching the bottom or using the lane line for assistance.

Our preparatory Mini Rays program is open to community residents, ages 5 & above, who are not ready to swim competitively but aspire to do so. This program is designed for swimmers who have learned basic swimming skills (i.e., getting in and out of the pool safely, putting their face into the water and able to control breathing, floating on their back, treading water, etc.) and are ready for stroke development. These swimmers are comfortable in the water alone, and in a group setting, but aren't able to make it all the way across the pool safely.  Mini Ray swimmers must be able to swim ten meters unassisted in the water.

    * Residents are defined by the following:

    • Dulles Farms Resident (swimmer resides in one of the four Dulles Farms' subdivisions: Stratshire Crossing, Virginia Manor, Westridge, White Oak Crest)
    • Non-Resident (swimmer resides outside of one of the four Dulles Farms' subdivision)

    Volunteer Requirements

Our swim team operates successfully because of the support and dedication from all families. Each family is required to complete volunteer obligations which are tracked via a point system.  The specific number of required points will be determined after registration has been completed.

To hold families accountable, a $500 conditional volunteer fee* will be applied to this registration but will only be charged to the pre-approved credit card after the season is over if the family does not meet its volunteer obligation. Fees will be assessed at a rate of $50 per missing volunteer point, up to $500.  For example, if your family only fulfills 12 points but there are 15 required points, you will be charged $150 for three missing points. If your family does meet their volunteer points, then the conditional fee will be lifted and the credit card information will no longer be stored.

We are also offering a "buy out" option in 2026.  For families who do not want to help the team by volunteering, you can pay a one time fee of $400 on or before April 30, 2026.  This will remove the volunteer requirement from your family.  The fees will be used to offset the cost of not having as many volunteers for events throughout the season. If you'd like to exercise the buy out option, you must email the Board at [email protected] by the deadline to let them know.

*The pre-approval is not a "hold" on the card but is an authorization for your card details to be stored temporarily by the payment system for future use should payment be necessary. If your family meets its volunteer obligation the conditional fee will be lifted, and credit card information will no longer be stored.
